Family Sports Day
It was the final day of the summer term and the hotttest day of the year but the heat didn't prevent the children from demonstrating excellent teamwork and cameraderie as they competed in a variety of events supported by their families. Many parents and older brothers and sisters also joined the children for a picnic lunch before resuming the afternoon's activities. Click here to see pictures of the day.
Y3/4 Visit to Stibbington

21 children from Years 3 and 4 made another trip to the Stibbington Centre for Environmental Education near Peterborough for a three day residential visit. Despite the rain of the previous months, we were lucky to avoid the downpours until the final day when we got soaked! The children now know everything there is to know about rocks and they managed to avoid the pirates at the nature reserve...this time! Click here to visit the Stibbington page.

The Big Sing
Big Sing 2012
On Tuesday 19th June a group of enthusiastic KS2 singers attended 'The Big Sing' held in the Free Church in St. Ives. This was the 6th year the event has been held involving choirs and groups of children from local primary schools singing together and performing to one another. Again, it was a fantastic success and our children represented the school beautifully!

Family Jubilee Garden Party
The school playground was transformed on the final day of the half-term as the Friends of Wyton hosted a garden party to help the school community begin a weekend of celebrations for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee. Food and enjoyment was plentiful and thankfully, unlike the following day, the rain was not! Click here to see more pictures.

Wyton Sports Relief Marathon
Once again, children and staff donned their trainers and took part in another Wyton Marathon, this time with half of the proceeds going to Sports Relief. KS1 ran and walked for 30 minutes and KS2 for 45 minutes with the most energetic running approximately 5 miles during their time slot. With children and staff being sponsored, we'll hopefully raise close to £1000. See the Fundraising page to see what has been raised to date.

Roald Dahl Book Week
To help formally launch our Accelerated Reading programme, we began the term with a book week, this year the theme being Roald Dahl. Each class has been reading one of his books and we finished the week dressing as one of the many well-known characters from his stories. We're hoping that with our increased emphasis on reading that our children will improve even quicker in this life skill and experience the many benefits and pleasure derived from this activity.

Children in Need
As we do every year, activities were organised in school to help raise money for Children in Need. Children from the School Council did an excellent job arranging competitions including guess the sweets in a jar and some colouring activites. Several children took part in sponsored silences ensuring some teachers had peaceful days. In all, an impressive total of £250.15 was raised.
Remembrance Day
To remember those who have died in conflicts throughout the world, we once again spent the morning on activities linked to the poppy and its use of a symbol of remembrance. We were joined by members of our local community for a special assembly and two minute silence. Everyone was also invited to wear something red and donate money raising £86.18 which was passed on to the Royal British Legion.

Y5/6 Visit to Kingswood
During 4 days of gloriously warm weather, some of the Y5 & 6 children learned how to climb walls, shoot at archery targets and fly down zip wires at the Kingswood Residential Centre on the Norfolk coast. It was an action-packed and hugely entertaining visit where children not only enjoyed themselves but learned the skills and benefits of teamwork and organising themselves without parents. Click here to see more photos from the visit.
