Pre-School Class
About Us
At Wyton on the Hill, our pre-school is staffed by an a highly experienced team.
Our pre-school class has its own separate area within the school and a purpose built outdoor area providing a stimulating learning environment specially geared to the nursery age group. Whilst it is self-contained, the children are still included in most of the activities within the main school such as assemblies, special performances, sessions with the reception children and snacks in the hall helping them with their transition to infant school.
Young children learn best when they are actively involved in an integrated curriculum, of which carefully structured play is an important part. The children in our nursery start with the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum, with the prime areas of learning being:
Personal, Social and Emotional Development
Communication and Language
Physical Development

Applying for a Place
Children can start in our pre-school from the beginning of the term after they turn 3. Every child has a universal entitlement of 15 hours a week of government funded early education, over 38 weeks of the year (term time). In addition parents may be entitled and wish to take up the Extended Entitlement of 30 hours a week. Places are offered for children to attend all mornings, all afternoons or full time, Unfortunately, a combination of mornings and afternoons is not possible. To make it financially viable, the school will need to be claiming for the full 15 or 30 hours.
If you wish for your child to attend our pre-school, you'll initially need you to contact the school and we can confirm if a place is available. To do this, please email the School Business Manager at finance@wyton.cambs.sch.uk or call on 01480 572995. Once a place has been offered and the paperwork has been completed, the Pre-School Lead will contact you to organise some taster session(s).
If you would like to come and visit our pre-school please telephone the school or email and we will arrange a convenient time for you to come and look around.

Timings
Our pre-school sessions run every morning from 08:45 to 11:45 and afternoon sessions from 12:15 to 15:15. If a child is entitled to the extended entitlement of 30 hours of funding then the lunch period will be included within this time and their sessions for these children will be 08:45 until 14:45.
Children who are staying for just the one session every day (3 hours), may also attend our lunch club which runs from 11:45 to 12:15 but there is a charge for this.
Wraparound care is also available for our pre-school children with Breakfast Club starting at 08:00 for this age group. After School Club runs until 18:00 every day except Friday when it's a 17:30 finish.

Regular Updates
From the time before your child starts in our pre-school and throughout their time with us, you will have regular communication with our Pre-School Lead, Miss. Saunderson, who will be your child's key-worker. She will keep you regularly updated with your child's progress including termly parent consultations. Tapestry will be used to provide almost daily posts giving you a clear picture of your child's time in their pre-school class.
